Evaluation of the Older Workers Face-to-Face Guidance Pilot
The Government’s Green Paper: A New Deal for Welfare: Empowering people to work includes a commitment to increasing employment among people aged 50 and over. As part of the process, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) funded a pilot study whereby independent advisors offers guidance to people of older working age about a range of issues related to work and retirement. CRSP was been contracted to evaluate this pilot. The study established what information older working people need, and how they an access it, in order to make an informed decision about work and retirement in later life.
The evaluation was multi-stranded. It incorporated a longitudinal survey of older workers who accessed the programme as well as in-depth interviews with a smaller number of older workers, and focus groups with advisors and their marketing managers. Observational research also took place in the context of guidance sessions between providers and older workers. It is anticipated that the findings from the study will feed directly into the development of the DWP’s Extending Working Life communication strategy.
The evaluation started in December 2007 and completed in March 2010.
