Negotiating Transitions to Citizenship
This was a study of the contrasting experiences of three cohorts of young people aged 16 to 24 years who are 'successful' or 'unsuccessful' in relation to education and/or the labour market as they make the transition to full adult ‘citizenship’ in its widest sense. The project used a qualitative longitudinal cohort methodology, which involved repeat in-depth interviews with young people on an annual basis. Focus groups were used to allow young people themselves to be involved in the content of the research. The project was part of the ESRC’s Youth Citizenship and Social Change Programme.
