Training and Reporting on European Social Security (trESS)
The trESS network organises training and networks on the European coordination of social security schemes and healthcare systems in the 27 member Countries. It is funded by the European Commission and implemented by Ghent University in collaboration with independent high profile experts on European Social Security in each of the member Countries. Dr Simon Roberts is the UK National Expert. The aim is to increase the knowledge base of the coordination regulation and to build strong networks rooted at national level encompassing public administrations, employers’ organisations and trade unions, NGO’s, judges, lawyers, and independent experts dealing with implementation in all the 27 member countries. trESS also identifies and informs the European Commission of problems and challenges at operational level in the member states and in the UK organises twice yearly seminars - the most recent, at the UK Treasury in London, was attended by the European Commission, senior policy makers and lawyers from the Treasury, Department of Health, HM Revenue and Customs and Department for Work and Pensions, and Social Security Commissioners, NGOs and leading UK and international academics.
