Nigel has worked at CRSP since 1991 and is the Centre’s Finance and Resources Manager. Previously he worked in banking for both Midland and the TSB banks.
Nigel’s overall task is to manage the Centre’s finances to ensure long-term sustainability. He is responsible for costing all the proposals which leave the Centre, for negotiating contracts with sponsors and the University’s finance officers, and for submitting invoices for work undertaken.
He oversees all the purchasing undertaken on behalf of the Centre and prepares the Centre’s annual budgets and reports on quarterly performance to the University as well as advising and assisting project managers on the most efficient use of their resources.
Recently he has become involved in the management of the Centre’s five government department’s Framework Agreements.
He is the line manager for the support team and is a member of the Centre’s management team.
Outside of the Centre Nigel is an elected member of the Board of ARMA (the Association of Research Managers and Administrators) and is a regular presenter at their training events. He also teaches post graduate students on the Department of Social Sciences masters course in research methods.
He is also on the Executive Committee of ARCISS (the Association of Research Centres in the Social Sciences) and is an invited member of a group sponsored by the SRA (the Social Research Association) looking at best practice in the commissioning of social science research.
